190 SL Convention St.Louis 2005

How many people asked, "What's that?" when I mentioned going to a 190 SL convention, about one car made in the 1950's and early 60's?  From the 23rd through the 26th of June, here are my photos.  These were taken at the Kemp Auto Museum, site of the tech sessions and concourse.  Click on any one for a larger image.

Note the PVC  air conditioning in the first shot.  Inside, the museum has a beautiful Mercedes Benz collection.  Here I talk to Gunther Bauerle who helped develop the 190 SL with Mercedes factory racing.

Events included concourse judging and awards banquet at the hotel where swapping a 50/50 ticket cost me a prize poster.  Following dinner, conventioneers traded stories in the hotel bar.

Factory photos show the 190 SL prototype and an engineer's rendering of the undercarriage.
