Collector Car Auction
How to Buy The Batmobile

It's no accident we're in Scottsdale visiting Wanda and Dave while the biggest, splashiest car auction in the country has center stage.  As Dave drives Linda, Wanda and me to Westworld and Barrett-Jackson, hold your cursor over a thumbnail for the caption and click for a larger image.

We're impressed, not only with the number and variety
of cars, but with the number and variety of other items
for sale, such as mattresses, livestock and jewelry.

On the floor are many custom and one-of-a-kind vehicles.  The Rat Rod pickup truck boasts fake rust and a 500 horsepower engine.

For ten dollars, buy a ticket to win a Shelby Cobra or $100,000 in cash.  For a thousand dollars, increase your chances to win with 160 tickets.

Unusual cars seem to be a Barrett-Jackson mainstay, like
"Fatty" Arbuckle's Pierce Arrow with the white tires or the 50th Commemorative Vette, looking like the 1953 edition on a C5 chassis.

Pooling resources with friends, we are ready to bid up to four thousand on the Batmobile.  This is the car featured in the 1966 to 68 TV series.  Built on a Lincoln Futura chassis, the Batmobile has a 500 horsepower engine with a ten-gallon bucket forming the fake jet exhaust.  Since it isn't street-legal, it's just as well it went to another bidder, who paid $4.62 million.
