Rotary International - 2005

Celebrating 100 Years of Rotary in Chicago

Arriving on Friday, June 17, we drove straight to McCormick Place to pick up our registration package.  That being Linda's birthday, we dined with Steve and Nancy Reed who treated us to a a concert at Ravinia, where we saw Alex on Saturday following the Centennial Parade.  Note the Rotary Time Capsule to be opened at the centennial in 2105.

Sunday was the Opening Plenary Session with Master of Ceremonies Roger Climpson of the Rotary Club of Lane Cove, New South Wales.  Entertainment included former Fifth Dimension singers Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr.  The first R.I. Convention I attended was in Philadelphia with Don Thomas, shown with Linda and his wife Sue.  After dinner we walked to Chicago's Millennium Park and Buckingham Fountain.

Featured speaker Monday was Ted Turner, promoting his plan to alleviate the world's poverty.  Displays from the ten decades of Rotary included a representation of the 1818 Paul Harris schoolhouse.  Activities in the House of Friendship were very popular.
